Former Western Province minister Siyoto Kunyanda on Sunday survived electrocution on the Kafue River.
Kunyanda, who is also former works and supply deputy minister in Frederick Chiluba’s government, in an interview said the incident happened when his boat hit into a damaged but active Zesco pylon which has been lying over the Kafue River for some time.
“I was held up in the same position for about eight seconds and was released later because of the strong power current which saturates the water,” he said.
“I was in shock and I am still shaken up to now because I do not know how I survived that accident. I went on the Kafue River to relax in my boat and I was in the company of two of my workers.”
Kunyanda expressed disappointment at Zesco’s failure to remove the pylon which he said was likely to pose a danger and cause loss of life.
“I did not know that there was a pylon and Zesco lines over the river and I do not understand why Zesco has failed to act upon the matter and remove that damaged pylon,” said Kunyanda.
