PF CADRES yesterday mobilised themselves to beat up president Michael Sata’s special assistant for press and public relations, George Chellah, at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.
State House security, however, whisked Chellah away to safety in a private vehicle. This happened following Chellah’s arrival from London with first lady Dr Christine Kaseba and other family members who accompanied the body of president Sata.
As Chellah alighted from the plane, some cadres clad in T-shirts labelled “Special Courtesy by GBM” were seen pointing and scheming to attack him. One cadre wearing a PF chitenge was heard saying: “Lelo kalechimona ka Chellah, ba boss balikatumpike sana, ekalengele ba boss ukufuma pali bu minister. Kaleponokwa lelo (Today, this boy Chellah will see. His boss [Sata] made him stupid, he even made [our] boss [GBM] to resign as minister.
Today he will be beaten.” Another cadre in the group was overheard questioning Chellah’s involvement with the first family after the death of president Sata. “Boss wakwe naaya, nomba kaleselela kumusungu, kamoneni. (His boss is dead. Now he is attaching himself to the white man, look at him,” the cadre said pointing at Chellah from a distance.
But as soon as Chellah disembarked from the plane, two plain-clothed security personnel whisked him away. The visibly surprised Chellah was separated from the presidential convoy and was later seen at the Mulungushi International Conference Centre where president Sata’s body was taken to lie in state. Efforts to get a comment from Chellah proved futile as his phones were off.
