Lusaka mayorMulenga Sata has withdrawn his candidature for the PF presidency.Meanwhile, Sylvia Masebo says some PF members are scared of having a president who will put his foot down because of the crimes they have committed in government.
Speaking at a briefing in Lusaka yesterday, Masebo, who was flanked by PF secretary general Bridget Atanga, her deputy Anthony Kasolo, Daniel Munkombwe, Chishimba Kambwili and Philip Kosamu, said the scared PF members were making the country ungovernable in the process of trying to put a puppet as president. “They want to make the country ungovernable, they want to pretend that Dr Scott is failing and most of the people who are doing this are people that have committed crimes and are scared of having a leader that is going to put his foot down.
They have been involved in a lot of deals and they are worried about who will be the next president,” Masebo said. She said some people were supporting certain candidates with a view to making them their puppets, and were ready to create anarchy and confusion and make the country ungovernable. “I want to appeal to the Zambian people that this is your chance to elect a leader who is going to be independent-minded, not one who is going to be used by people to cover up their crimes, and I don’t need to tell you; you just need to look at some of these candidates and the people around them and you yourselves can decide and make up your minds,” she said. Masebo, who is also party chairperson for elections, assured delegates that no one would manipulate the voters register ahead of the general conference. “We have the registers. So we know who is expected but it will not do for anyone to think [that because] they are a leader of a committee, they are going to doctor the list. You are wasting your time. No list is going to be doctored by anybody,” she emphasised. And Masebo condemned the conduct of ZNBC board chairman Dr John Mulwila over accusations he made against her and other senior PF officials. “There was a news item that the central committee meeting held at State House flopped and immediately I saw that, I said ‘What is happening?’” she said. “I said to Mr Maduma that it was professional misconduct. We are not asking you to write anything good about us but we are asking you to be factual. I don’t think it is correct that the public media can begin to mislead the public.” Masebo said in her conversation with Maduma, she did not use any vulgar language. And Kasolo asked Dr Mulwila to apologise to the trio and threatened that legal action would be taken against him in his personal capacity. “It made sad reading that such a false story could be run three times last night (Monday). That is a blatant abuse of resources by Dr Mulwila. If he has any integrity, let him resign as board chairman of ZNBC because he has shown that he is above the law in terms of the ZNBC Act,” said Kasolo. And Kambwili said he and Kasolo did not storm ZNBC, but only sought Maduma’s audience to rebut a story that was aired on the Sunday 19:00 hours main news, in which the corporation implied that the PF central committee meeting failed to take place. “We told Mr Maduma that by all standards, when a President issues a statement, there is no way you can start reporting about a junior minister first; the President responding to a junior minister. That is how that news was written and we know Emmanuel Mwamba is controlling that newsroom,” claimed Kambwili. – See more at: http://www.postzambia.com/news.php?id=4208#sthash.eoobqTKo.dpuf
