Edgar Lungu’s cadres and supporters are ready to shed blood because of the jobs they have been promised, says Bishop John Mambo.
Bishop Mambo, who is Chikondi Foundation executive director, said it was the same mafias that attempted to assault local government minister Emmanuel Chenda when he went to accredit for the PF general conference at Mulungushi International Conference Centre on Friday. He said Lungu, one of the PF’s presidential aspirants, should not be allowed near political authority.
“The Edgar camp is like a mafia group and if mafias are going to rule us, there will be trouble. But we refuse. There will be no mafias to rule us; we will rise against them. If it means going to prison for fighting them, we are ready to occupy the prisons,” Bishop Mambo said. He said Lungu was surrounded by desperate people. “All they want are jobs once Lungu becomes president. I mingle with everyone, including those supporting him; they have told me they want positions and they have been promised, that’s why they are ready to shed blood. We can’t have a cadre cabinet and cadres representing us in foreign missions,” Bishop Mambo said.
He said delegates at the PF general conference should vote using their heads not blood. Bishop Mambo wondered why Lungu had not condemned the violent conduct of his supporters. He commended Geoffrey Bwalya Mwamba, another presidential aspirant, for refusing to use youths as political mafias. “With all his money and weaknesses, GBM has shown leadership and maturity,” Bishop Mambo said. He wondered how ordinary citizens would be protected if a Cabinet minister could be harassed by party cadres. Bishop Mambo said some PF leaders wished president Michael Sata dead because they wanted positions.
He said it was unfortunate that the same people were accusing acting President Dr Guy Scott of being a foreigner with no regard to his contribution to the party.
Bishop Mambo asked the Church to pray for peace as PF delegates choose their leader.
