Syacheye Madyenkuku says Zambians must refuse to associate themselves with politicians that always want to discuss tribes in politics.
Speaking before Edgar Lungu launched his campaigns at Freedom Park in Kitwe on Saturday, Madyenkuku, a former cabinet minister in Frederick Chiluba’s government and also former member of parliament for Sinazongwe in Southern Province, said he believed that the government must not change this time and that Lungu must continue with development programmes. He said the contest for the January 20, 2015 presidential election was seriously between the PF and the UPND. “I want to dispel some assertions from some opposition party that the PF is a Bemba party.
The PF is not a party for people who are Bemba by tribe alone, no! It’s inclusive. I come from Southern Province myself together with many supporters of the party and others are in government. I can tell you that we are seriously and vigorously campaigning in all corners of the province and we will win,” he said.
Madyenkuku said Zambians should not pay particular attention to individuals in politics that were campaigning on tribal lines, adding that such mentality must be condemned with the contempt it deserved. And PF chairperson, Inonge Wina, said she was proud to be associated with Lungu, who had come with determination and vigour to continue the legacy of Michael Sata. “Edgar Lungu has come to reconcile the party so that it goes back to the united people’s movement which our late president was proud to preside over,” said Wina.
And Kabwata member of parliament Given Lubinda, who was initially vying for the PF presidency, pledged his total support for Lungu. “Those who are thinking the PF is split, baloba ilyauma! Baleibepa’ (they’ve drawn a blank, they are just cheating themselves).
The PF is united behind Edgar Chagwa Lungu,” said Lubinda.
