Edgar LUNGU says once elected Republican President, he will discard some of the people who have surrounded him during the campaigns because he regards them as liabilities.
Speaking when he guested on Muvi TV’s pre-recorded Zambia decides programme on Sunday evening,  Lungu said he was not going to promise any jobs to the people around him. “For some people, you know of course, that they are a liability and when you carry them on board, you know that your hands are tied when you make decisions,” Lungu said. He said he was not going to allow himself become a prisoner of party members and supporters who had come closer to him during this election period. “I want a presidency which is free to make decisions no matter how unpalatable [such decision] may be to one or two individuals,” Lungu said.
He said he was not promising any jobs to the people surrounding him in support of his anticipated victory in the 2015 presidential election. “I’m getting enough support beyond the party. I know that some colleagues in the party want to gain my recognition to be promised jobs. That I can’t do,” Lungu said.
“What I can tell you is that there are people within the party agitating for immunity purely for the sake of maximising their political mileage and gain. I know them but I won’t mention their names. I want to say that I will not succumb to that.” Lungu, however, said he would not hesitate to consider the contributions that some party members had made when making appointments once elected as Republican President.
“When I become Head of State, I will look at the contributions people are making, their quality and what values they can add but I will not promise anyone a job now,” said Lungu.
