Clik here to view.Michael Sata’s legacy has been abandoned and betrayed by PF, says Chinyemba Kambanja.
In an interview yesterday, Kambanja, a retired Kitwe magistrate but now UPND trustee in-charge of legal matters for the Copperbelt, said Zambians must refuse to support the alliance between Lungu and former president Banda because the two could not be trusted.
He said Zambians must refuse to support PF candidate Edgar Lungu for betraying Sata’s legacy by embracing Rupiah Banda, who is facing corruption cases before the courts. “The biggest problem we have as a nation is our failure to question immoral manoeuvres in our politics. What credibility is Rupiah Banda bringing to the PF or politics in general? The late president Michael Sata vowed to fight corruption; he took Rupiah Banda to court for corruption and related cases. It was a genuine and conscious decision the late president made. If he was alive today, that alliance couldn’t have happened.
We need to demand morality in politics as a people,” he said. Kambanja said the electorate must refuse to associate themselves with people that were ready to entertain corruption for the sake of political power. Kambanja said the vision and legacy of president Sata died with him and the happenings in the PF now were not in any way his wishes. He said many people surrounding Lungu had shady pasts and were rejected or fired by president Sata from his government. Kambanja said the late president’s name was just being used in vain. “The law again tells us that he (Rupiah Banda) is not supposed to participate in politics when he is retired; otherwise, he will forfeit his benefits.
This is a former president, who has been actively involved in politics, moving from one wagon to the other, which is not correct. What Rupiah Banda is doing is not for Zambia but for his personal benefits, for political protection,” Kambanja said. He said the PF had become a hub for corruption, hence the need for all sober-minded and responsible Zambians to actively participate in the forthcoming presidential election by voting for the opposition UPND. “Let us not fear anything.
In the Bible, 2Timothy 1:7 says God has given us not the spirit of fear but a spirit of power, love and sound mind. Let’s not entertain unholy, immoral alliances as a people.
The ballot is the greatest weapon we have to clean our politics,” said Kambanja. Banda has endorsed Lungu on the understanding that the PF leader, if he wins this month’s presidential election, will drop his court cases, force out Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito and close The Post by any this month’s presidential electionmeans possible, among other issues.
