While we know that there are a lot of foods that are super healthy and good to eat, we may not consume them regularly.
However there are certain foods, which are important to consume on a regular basis, as these comprise of essential vitamins and minerals that all of us will benefit from. They also have good levels of fats, proteins, and carbs, which are all equally important for a balanced diet. So what are these foods that will benefit us greatly if consumed every day?
1. Eggs/ chicken/ meat – any one of these are very important to include daily in your diet. Whole eggs give you a good amount of healthy protein and fats if you want to stay strong and eat filling and healthy meals. If you are an active individual it is even more important to eat eggs as a form of energy as well as to build your muscles that get broken down during your workouts.
2. Salads / vegetables – make one meal of your day just a big bowl of salad or a big bowl of fresh vegetables cooked minimalistic and see how it makes you feel. If you can add some chicken into the mix, it will not only fill you up more but make it more delicious than it already is. Add nuts for more flavour and crunch.
3. Fish or fish oil – Getting your dose of Omega 3 is very important to make you feel good, and to reduce the aches in your joints after strenuous workouts. Fish oil is also a very good fat to consume in order to ensure that you get your dosage of healthy fats.
4. Olive oil/ coconut oil – add these generously to your salads (incase of olive oil) or cooking (in case of coconut oil). Both these flavourful oils are important so that you don’t end up consuming cooking oils that are highly processed and in turn harmful for your weight management goals.
5. Fruits – Fruits are great to add fiber to your diet, they have antioxidant properties, are good to carry as a quick snack in between meals, have healthy natural carbs and sugar, and are generally little bites of nutrition. One fruit a day should be part of any remotely healthy persons diet and we hope these are part of yours!

Good idea. A lot of people cannot digest raw veggies, so they can steam them.

Times of India would be well advised not to promote meat eating. Humans are not made to eat meat. Those who do not agree may consider the fact that human cannot survive a diet of meat alone without any vegetables. Further it is well established that non-vegetarianism is contributing very significantly to global warming and environmental damages.

ALL HUMANS NEED A BALANCED VEG/NON-VEG DIET TO BE HEALTHY.

Totally disagree. Before humans invented cold storage, people in the extreme north used to live without vegetables for the whole of winter, surviving only on meat.

Thanks for the response but it covered only one of the points. May I advise you to recheck the facts about the people living around north pole. Secondly why don’t some one prove by actually surviving on meats alone with out consuming any vegetable products.

I don’t see why I should prove anything to you. You have no right to interfere or influence someone’s personal dietary habits and preferences. If you don’t like to eat meat, feel free not to. I always wonder why vegetarians jump whenever this topic is raised. Nahi khana hain to mat khaon yaar.

True., One should not interfere or influence someone’s personal dietary habits. The same is applicable to the media which is trying to promote only non veg diet . I don’t understand as to why non vegetarians jump and start their rhetoric that it is their personal choice kind of thing. Agar veg nahi khana hai to mat khaon yaar. But, media mey is tharah ki bateen propogate karna media koh suit nahi karta. Media agar aisi harkat karegi, toh, uski bajaani padegi yaar…..

Well said Mr. Vijay. I don’t understand when they get a lot frustrated that we enjoy what we eat.

The extremists enjoy killing people, why should any one object to them!? Think honestly and without prejudices (if indeed you can do so). As I said earlier, people will always like to justify what they like and not what is right.

One should consume that which is commonly available in his geography. A location which has fish in abundance and a thriving fishing community, will certainly eat more of fish in its community. Similarly, a location where there is no vegetation, it can consume whatever is available for its sustenance (Example- Arabian Region). But, India is a landscape with good amount of diverse vegetation and since, it is in abundance, one should look forward to consuming more of vegetarian diet. This is not because, it is only veg food will be good kind of thing. Our system also, cannot accommodate a non veg diet. The longitivity of a non veg consuming person is generally low compared to a vegetarian person. India is a civilized culture and it believes in causing minimum damage to mother nature. Because, according to Dharma tradition, nothing exists with out the divine. Everything is divine hence, one should be very careful while making his choices and see to it that he does not cause major damage to mother nature.

As per our Vedas “jeeva jeevasya bhojanam”!!! Tomorrow you might say lions should eat grass only. Humans have canine teeth as well and agriculture came very late in history of evolutions!!!

Vedas don’t speak what to do and what not to do. Lions are built to eat meat. It would be unfair expecting lions to have grass or carrot juice, for a simple reason that they are designed to have meat. Humans have canine teeth and humans also have the idea of tearing flesh with knife. Just because, they have both does not mean, they have to do that. Instead of giving filthy ideas, consider yourself as being part of nature and don’t try dominating it. Vedas speak about the reactions of what you do. You have to make your choices. Making choices should be based on a principle called “minimum damage to mother nature”. Your choices should not be based on what you like and dislike. Nobody will have medicine because, he likes medicine. Similarly, nobody should should things which are based on his likes. Well, there are some things which are independent of what one likes and dislikes.

Humans would not have canines if they were not meat eaters. The fact that we have canines establishes the fact that humans have always been non-vegetarians.

We somehow will always find a way to justify or rationalise what we like. Humans cannot survive without eating vegetables but do survive pretty well without eating meat. Please think beyond your pleasures of meat-eating as to who has given us the right to kill another creature just for our pleasure? I know it won’t be easy to answer it honestly but do try if you can.

Imagine in a day we finding more than 100 hen dead sick and waiting funeral in our surroundings.Pure vegetarians just close their nose and move away. They express disgust faces to even look into them. So this would cause epidemic diseases much faster than any could imagine. This not only appears to hen, but to all livestock. The creator has not given emotions to animals the same way as human. And he created human to be dominant over other beings obviously. And if vegetarians say they don’t harm environment, the harm is more, because plants are much more needed in ecosystem than animals. And plants do have a life so think twice before killing them too. And then please survive on water and air. And many vegetarians now converted egg also to vegetarian section. For their benefit Its good na to stop even formation of hen. I find it funny when people speak without any knowledge against people who eat meat/fish.

If people do not eat chicken, meat and fish, there will be risk of imbalance of eco system. And we don’t have that much of vegetarian food in world to reach the demand.

It is not about veg or non veg. You have made some loose assumptions like animals have less emotions than humans, Humans are created to be dominant over other beings etc etc etc. All this is non sensical because, humans are also made up of that which makes these animals or plants. By this, we can factually conclude, that materially, we are no different to that of animals and plants. As far as emotions are considered, there is no way, one can explain the emotions of animals, because, all the time, humans are speaking to humans. The idea of many vegetarians for not having non veg diet may be due to bad smell and feeling yuk about it. But, the basic idea of not having a vegetarian diet is to cause minimum damage to mother nature. It is true that even plants have life. But, causing minimum damage is the underlining principle here. There are many substitutes in nature that can fulfill whatever one gets out of meat or fish or eggs etc. There is no need to derive the nutrients only from these. One may like to consume such things, but, they have to accept it gracefully rather than giving stupid arguments….

LOOK NOTHING IN NATURE IS PURELY VEGETARIAN. JUST AS BIG FISH LIVE ON SMALL FISH AND WE CONSUME BIG FISH TOO, SO DO PLANTS LIVE ON PLANTS AND WE CONSUME THEM TOO. THINK. CHECK IT OUT. PLANTS ALSO LIVE ON BACTERIA WHICH HAS LIFE.

According to Dharma tradition, there is nothing which isn’t alive. Every bit of manifestation including you and me are sacred. And the underlining principle is since everything is sacred, one has to make his choice based on “causing minimum damage to mother nature”. Which means, one should make his choices with out harming mother nature. This philosophy is Dharmic and is far more superior compared to any other philosophies in the world. It is much more civilized which considers everything to be sacred unlike the western and Arabic religions which is very much human specific. We believe in being with nature rather than dominating it unlike western and Arabian religions. The point is not about what is veg and what is non veg. It is about eating that which suits your environment and geographic situations. It is absolutely fine for the Arabs to consume meat because, they have no vegetation. Similarly, It is absolutely fine to consume vegetarian diet where there is plenty of vegetation. Of course there are animals who would have animals and plants who would consume plants, why should we involve in making unfair choices by deciding about what to eat based on our likes and dislikes. If you like consuming non veg food that is your choice but, it is unfair to apply for all you see. Media can not privilege itself to decide what every one should eat and what everyone should not eat kind of stuff. It is none of their business to promote such philosophy. Equality is wishful thinking. Nobody is equal at any form of existence. How can they apply one thing flat on everybody while knowing that nature is diverse and it should be respected. I am not saying that one should not eat veg or non veg by loading any kind of philosophy here. Vegetarianism is one of the complete philosophies and it alone does not represent Dharma tradition. People consumed meat in ancient days as well. But, they never applied or asked every one to adopt it just because they are consuming. This does not make sense and can not be tolerated. Media should seriously looking in to quality journalism instead of drilling people’s mind with this nonsensical ideas. I think, they have deviated from their core objective and have sort of gone in to something they are not expected to do. I understand, what today’s media is designed to do and can very well understand where they come from…
