Government has secured land for the construction of houses for all the former presidents.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Works, Supply and Communications Richwell Siamunene told parliament on Tuesday that land has been identified for the projects in Lilayi, Silverest and State Lodge and works are ongoing.
This was in response to a question from Solwezi West member of Parliament (MP) Humphrey Mwanza (MMD), who wanted to know the progress Government has made in identifying land for the construction of residences for all former presidents.
Mr Siamunene said the house for late President Frederick Chiluba and former President Rupiah Banda will be built in Lilayi while houses for late presidents Mwanawasa and Sata will be constructed in the Silverest and State Lodge areas, respectively.
Mr Siamunene said Government is committed to constructing houses for all the former presidents.
He attributed the delay in the construction project to lack of funds and added that the construction period is 50 months.
Mr Siamunene said the construction of a house for Dr Chiluba started in September last year while the building of Dr Mwanawasa’s house commenced on January 6 this year and will be completed this year.
He also said construction of houses for Mr Banda and Mr Sata will start this year and will be completed next year.
