The National Association of Media Arts (NAMA) says it is happy with the release of Owas Mwape from jail after serving four months of his six months jail sentence for forgery and uttering false documents.
In a terse statement, NAMA chairman Patrick “Sauloshi” Salubusa says Owas, an actor, director and producer, is one of the backbones of the local film industry and as such, they warmly welcome him back.
“The National Association of Media Arts (NAMA) would like to warmly welcome back Mr. Owas Ray Mwape to the local film industry. Mr Mwape, you are one of the backbones of the local film industry and please note that those four months were simply a commercial break… the scene continues… Action,” Sauloshi says.
A number of artistes have been posting messages on social media, welcoming the release of Owas who is known for either featuring or producing films like The Lawyer, Suwi, Mwansa the Great, Kabanana, Dear Nana, A Beautiful Mind, Chenda and The Minister’s House.
However, even when he was in prison, a number of artistes came out in support including the Zambia Association of Musicians (ZAM) who visited him together with General Kanene who is also in jail for a defilement offence
