The commuter train has been bought using part of the 120 million US dollar Euro bond that was given to the Zambia Railways Limited.
Transport Minister Yamfwa Mukanga who officially launched the train yesterday, said government is committed to providing a cheaper mode of transport for the people.
He said government had shown commitment by fulfilling most of its electoral promises.
And speaking earlier, Zambia Railways Chief executive officer, Muyenga Atanga, says he and his colleagues were working at making the public company viable.
He explained that the commuter train will operate from Ngwerere to Liyali with immediate effect.
Professor Atanga says the fares will be affordable even for the ordinary Zambian to afford.
