Eastern Province PF chairperson Lameck Mangani says it is unfortunate that some people want to exaggerate issues surrounding Chipata Diocese Bishop George Lungu and President Michael Sata following their recent telephone conversation.
And Mangani says Zambians read the Bible more than a constitutionwhich is widely talked about today.
Addressing party members at Chipata Municipal Council Chamber on Saturday, Mangani described the telephone conversation between Bishop Lungu and President Sata as a light moment, as well as a joke and not what was perceived by some politicians in the country as conflict.
He said President Sata only raised a concern with Bishop Lungu as the conversation of the two was on a lighter note and not meant to threaten or intimidate the latter.
“Some people want to exaggerate Bishop Lungu and President Sata’s issue. President Sata is a Catholic and there are other things which he can joke about with Bishop Lungu as an Easterner. Can he really say he kills (Bishop) George Lungu?” Mangani asked.
And Mangani said Zambians read the Bible more than the Constitution which has attracted a hot debate in the country.
He explained that people did not read the Constitution every day that they should rush government to release the document in such a hurry.
Mangani said the laws were in place, adding that those who broke them were being arrested and there was no need to rush.
And Mangani said he was not stopping any party members from seeking audience with President Sata as State House was for all Zambians.
He said sneaking into State House on trivial matters portrayed a very bad picture on the party in the region.
“I will be chairman today, tomorrow I will not be there, but PF is going to be there. Let us unite and make PF strong and popular in the region. There is need to work as a team and narrow these differences.
Stop fighting individuals in the party for the purpose of unity. And let members learn to follow procedure as they will be no witch-hunting, hate and disunity in the party,” said Mangani.
Meanwhile, party vice-chairperson for Eastern Province, Chishala Chilufya, said women who travelled to meet President Michael Sata in Lusaka over alleged victimisation should not fear to come back. He further appealed to the youth not to victimise anyone.
