Man kills His Wife And Later Takes His Own Life

A 40 year old man of Zimba District in Southern Province has brutally murdered his wife and later taken his own life.
Paul Mukomokelwa of Musozya Village in Chief Nyawa’s area hit Mary Siamwanga, 41, with a pounding stick on her forehead, killing her instantly.
Mr Mukomokelwa later committed suicide by hanging himself to a tree after realising that his wife had died.
Southern Province deputy Police chief, Kashif Mphande confirmed the murder and suicide cases which happened on Sunday in an interview yesterday.
He said Mr Mukomokelwa picked up a domestic quarrel with his wife on Sunday around 16:00 hours and in the process he hit his wife with a pounding stick.
Mr Mphande said the wife sustained a deep cut on the forehead and died on the spot.
‘‘He hit his wife with a pounding stick and when he realised that his wife had died, he ran away from the village,’’ Mr Mphande said.
He said on Monday, some villagers discovered that Mr Mukomokelwa had committed suicide and his body was still hanging to the tree at a nearby bush.
Meanwhile, the body of a 23-year-old student who allegedly committed suicide by throwing herself into the Victoria Falls in Livingstone after failing examinations and dropping out of two colleges has been discovered in the Victoria Falls gorge.
Mr Mphande said the body of Carol Kanyembo, of House Number 172 Dambwa North Extension, who went missing on Friday, was discovered yesterday in the morning in the gorge.
‘‘I will give more details later because our officers right now have just been sent to the Victoria Falls gorge to retrieve the body,’’ he said.
A few days before she took her life, Ms Kanyembo sent text messages to her close friends that she would take her life because her parents were disappointed with her performance in colleges in Namibia and Botswana.
