Man Attempts To Rape Patient In Hospital

Copperbelt commissioner of police Joyce Kasosa said the incident occurred in the hospital ward around 05.00 hours on Tuesday.
Police arrested a 48-year-old man of Ndola’s Kawama township who allegedly attempted to rape his 22-year-old neighbour whilst she was admitted to hospital.
She identified the suspect as Alick Munthali, of house number 2718, Kawama Township.
Ms Kasosa Copperbelt commissioner of police said Munthali was by the patient’s bedside and that she was asleep when he attempted to rape her.
“The complainant is sick and admitted to hospital. So the suspect, who is her neighbour, offered to stay by her bedside as she is too weak to do anything by herself.
“So as she was asleep in the early hours of Tuesday, the suspect took advantage of her situation and attempted to rape her,” she said.
Ms Kasosa said the woman was only awakened when the suspect, who was naked, tried to pull her pants down.
She said the woman screamed for help and was rescued by her fellow patients who got suspicious upon seeing that the curtains were drawn.
Ms Kasosa said the patients apprehended the suspect and took him to the hospital police post where he is detained pending investigations.
