Justice Makungu Challenges MAGISTRATES On Corruption

Kitwe high court judge -in-charge Catherine  Makungu has urged magistrates to remove the corruption perception held against  them by the public by totally avoiding actions  that suggest otherwise.
Justice Makungu was speaking in Kitwe when she officially opened a workshop for local magistrates organised by the Copperbelt provincial local courts officer yesterday.
“Let me remind you of some of the basic ethics that are always expected of you .To act independently and impartiality, to behave in a dignified manner and to uphold integrity and propriety of you offices,that is,for you,your worships,to be socially and and morally acceptable to the communities in which you are assigned to serve,”She said.she also reminded the magistrates in attendance to always exercise fairness and equal treatment of litigants who went before them regardless of there social status.
Furthermore,avoid engaging in corruption and corrupt practices.Change the perception that there is no justice at local courts,”justice Makungu said.
And Kitwe Acting acting deputy director of court operations,Davies Mumba Urged magistrates to invest in reading widely in order to enrich decision making in their courts.
“Develop the culture of reading other Authorities so that you quote other authorities .In other professions people read at the age of 90,why not you,”He said
