PF National chairperson Inonge Wina says the PF is not a rich party.
Speaking when she welcomed defectors from the opposition UPND and MMD, that included former member of parliament for Mangango constituency Robert Taundi, Wina said those who are joining the PF should always bear in mind that they are not joining a rich party.
“Those joining the PF should know that they are not joining a rich party. The reason why some political parties were perceived to be rich was because they were dipping their fingers into government coffers. Joining PF is a lot of hard work,” Wina said.
She advised those that were seeking for adoption on the PF ticket to continue working for the party even in an event that they were not adopted.
“When you are not picked, we want to see you working for the party.
Don’t just show up when you hear a by-election,” Wina told the more than five aspiring candidates, including Taundi, who were seeking adoption for the Mangango seat on the PF ticket.
And Wina said it was unfortunate that since day one of the PF forming government, some political parties had waged a war against the ruling party, whether they did something good or not.
She advised the gathering not to be swayed by such political parties but remain focused and wait to see how the PF, under President Michael Sata, would perform.
“Lies were told about Mr Sata in 2011, so don’t allow yourself to be cheated but try to understand what the PF is trying to do for the people of Zambia. In another two years, we shall see some changes in Western Province,” said Wina.
And in an interview before his defection, Taundi, who was recently expelled by the MMD, said he had nothing to do with the former ruling party.
Taundi said he had seen where development was during the short period that the PF had been in power.
“I have seen the development that has come to my constituency during this short period that the PF has been in power. With the wrangles in MMD, I don’t see any future for the party because people want to go to political parties that are calm,” Taundi said.
He said he would be available to the people of Mangango whom he said had seen what he has been able to do since he started serving as member of parliament.
Earlier, during the introductions by aspiring candidates for the Mangango seat, Taundi received a huge applause from the crowd after he introduced himself.
Taundi was later mobbed by his jubilant supporters after he announced his defection to the PF
