Three police officers have been sentenced to 2 years imprisonment with hard labor, for attempted extortion when they impersonated to be employees of the Zambia Revenue Authority -ZRA.
Felix Kafula, Simon Mulenga and Conrad Bwalya, operating from different police stations impersonated as ZRA customs officers and demanded for Ten Thousand Kwacha from a woman they impounded for non-payment of VAT for alcoholic beverages.
The incident happened in November 2011, when the three police officers intercepted Mary Nambita in Kafue, where they demanded for money for her cases of liquor to be released.
She then demanded for identity cards from the officers, which they failed to produce.
In passing judgement, high court judge Chalwe Mchenga said the trio is irresponsible and tarnishing the image of Zambia police
