Mwandi MMD member of parliament Michael Kaingu says it will be disgusting if his party fails to win any of the upcoming by-elections.
In an interview, the former MMD vice-president further wished the party well in the by-elections.
Asked about his party’s chances in the by-elections, Kaingu said the MMD was strong in his constituency.
“My eyes can only see the boundaries of my constituency. As for other places, you can ask the MMD president Dr Nevers Mumba or the national secretary Muhabi Lungu. I am nobody in the party, but I wish them well. If the MMD wins, it will be pleasing and if we lose, it will be disgusting,” Kaingu said.
Asked if he would take up an active role in campaigning for the MMD in the by-elections, Kaingu responded: “That will be interference. I am just an ordinary member. You saw how I was all over campaigning when I was vice-president, but now I can’t do that because I am just a member of parliament for Mwandi.”
The Electoral Commission of Zambia has set September 11 as the date for parliamentary by-elections in Solwezi Central, Kasenengwa, Mkushi South, Zambezi West and Vubwi.
Four of the five constituencies were held by the MMD before the court nullified them owing to electoral malpractices.
The MMD has since readopted the same candidates to contest the by-elections.
