Zambian singer Dambisa Lunda has sued her husband Brian Mulenga for marriage reconciliation in the Chilenje Local Court.
But Mulenga, who is a 2nd Lieutenant at Zambia National Service in Makeni, on the same day (August 25) applied before the Lusaka Boma Local Court for dissolution of marriage on grounds that Dambisa, 26 was disrespectful towards him.
According to summons obtained, the singer sued her husband for reconciliation and submitted that there were disputes in their marriage.
The couple is expected to appear before the Chilenje Local Court on September 14.
In Lt Mulenga’s summons to Dambisa, the court has set hearing for tomorrow.
Earlier on Monday, Lt Mulenga, in the company of his mother, retired Brig General Catherine Makwala, reported Dambisa at Woodlands Police Station, demanding a restraining order against the singer.
And police sources confirmed that Dambisa was reported to Woodlands Police Station.
But when contacted, Lt Mulenga refused to comment on the matter, saying he was not in a position to discuss the issue with the media.
Dambisa, who lives in Lusaka’s Woodlands area, told The Post that problems began when she exposed her pregnancy in an online magazine earlier this year.
Exclusive Zambian magazine carried a picture of a topless and pregnant Dambisa on its cover page a few months ago and many women organisations in the country condemned the move.
According to the singer, her mother-in-law was not happy with the picture in the magazine.
“When that picture came out, my mother-in-law was not happy, but my husband didn’t have problems because we were together during the shooting. We actually took a picture together where he covered my breasts,” she said.
Dambisa said her mother-in-law demanded that their marriage ends, saying Dambisa was a prostitute.
“My mother-in-law called me a prostitute because of that picture and from that time, she has been pushing the son to leave me. Before I gave birth, she came home to pack my husband’s clothes; she packed everything, including his underwear. What kind of mother does that? I gave birth prematurely because of stress,” she complained.
But Brig Gen Makwala accused Dambisa of taking men to their home when Lt Mulenga was in school, and that she did not want her son to marry a “prostitute” but a God-fearing woman.
Dambisa further said it was not easy for her to support her child financially as she currently did not have a steady income.
She said when the baby was a month old, she reported the case to police because her husband was behaving funny.
“I did not go ahead to give him the call-out that time because I thought we could find a way to resolve the issue. I even complained to his bosses at Makeni Zambia National Service. I regard him as my husband because lobola (dowry) was paid sometime back. We even had a kitchen party in 2012. We used to live together. He even had his matebeto, so what do you call that?” she asked.
Three years ago, Lt Mulenga publicly engaged Dambisa in Game Stores at Manda Hill Shopping Mall in Lusaka and planned to have a wedding later on.
