UPND Sesheke Member of Parliament Sianga Siawuya has been arrested together with three party cadres in connection with the attack of Patriotic Front Secretary General Davies Chama and his entourage in Mulobezi.
Police Spokesperson Munganga Chanda has confirmed the arrests to ZNBC news.
Ms Chanda says Mr Siawuya has been arrested together with Gerald Imanda, Godfrey Likamba and Mushaukwa Mushaukwa, who was shot and is currently under police guard in Sesheke district Hospital.
She added that Police have recovered a pistol with seven rounds of ammunition, an axe, a panga and a knife which were found in Mr. Siawuya’s motor vehicle.
Ms Chanda says Mr. Siawuya’s motor vehicle was one of other vehicles which were used to block the road when the attack happened and investigations have continued.
PF Secretary General Davies Chama’s entourage was on Saturday attacked by suspected UPND cadres during campaigns in Mulobezi constituency leading to the shooting of a suspected UPND cader.
Patriotic Front media and publicity Vice Chairperson Sunday Chanda has urged the opposition political UPND to desist from attacking the PF and its leaders during the ongoing campaigns in the three Constituencies.
Mr. Chanda says campaigns should not be based on violence but instead political parties should highlight what they intend to do for the people.
He said it is important that politicians hold civil campaigns and be responsible to participate and conduct elections in a peaceful manner in the by elections slated for June 30.
Mr. Chanda said the PF will not indulge in politics of violence because the party is committed to taking development to all parts of the country.
