A Birth Control Pill For Men On The Horizon

For men who resent wearing condoms, a new non-intrusive solution is on the anvil – a birth control pill.

At least two projects are in the pipeline for choking male fertility.

One is H2-gamendazole that makes sperms go half-cooked. Normally, premature sperm cells grow a tail and head in the testis, but H2-gamendazole keeps them from reaching this stage of development.

“If there’s no sperm, the egg’s not going to get fertilised,” said Joseph Tash, a reproductive biologist at the University of Kansas’ Medical Centre in the US.

Tash has worked on the compound since 2001.

The other potential compound is JQ1 that can trick the body into forgetting how to make sperm!

JQ1 was found blocking bromodomain proteins in cancer cells by Jay Bradner and his team at Harvard’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. The uncontrolled division of the abnormal cells ceased due to it.

JQ1 also obstructed a testicle-specific bromodomain called BRDT, making the sex cells that would otherwise produce sperms draw a blank about their own behaviour.

Mice treated with JQ1 can copulate with abandon yet produce zero offsprings.

But it will be several years before the drug is available.

Researchers would have to find a version of the molecule that works on the testicle protein without coming up with any side effects.

MMD Undergoing Reconstructive Cleansing – Nevers

MMD President Nevers Mumba has described as words spoken too early the insinuation that the MMD under his leadership has lost its relevance to Zambia’s governance system.
Reacting to former MMD and republican vice president Enoch Kavindele’s call for the former ruling party to disband owing to its alleged inability to add value to the governance issues because of its persistent squabbles, Dr. Mumba says the MMD is currently undergoing a reconstructive clean up.
Dr. Mumba has told Qfm News by telephone that people should wait for this clean up to run its course before judging whether the former ruling party is still relevant to the country’s governance system or not.
He says he is not particularly inclined to go into a debate over what Mr. Kavindele is calling for as he does not understand the angle he is talking from.
The MMD president says he does not further know the pressure that Mr. Kavindele is under to make a suggestion of disbanding MMD the more reason he fears to make a direct comment on this suggestion because he will only be helping a source he may not necessary want to help.
Dr Mumba however says his understanding of things is that the relevancy of Democracy can only be judged by the Zambian people.
Dr. Mumba is further of the view that the relevance of any citizen or organization in Zambia can only be judged over a period of time.
He says this is why he does not feel prompted to argue against Mr. Kavindele’s call.

Nigerian actor badNollywood Actor, Hank Anuku popularly known as Cobra who rose from zero to hero playing major lead roles in movies both in Nigeria and other African countries have tested positive to HIV.

The born-again actor revealed in an interview that he left Nigeria on April 2011 to Zambia where he took part in various plays on teaching about HIV and AIDS without his wife and two kids for six month enjoying life and sleeping with 80 women.

Life in Zambia was heaven on earth because we could enjoy life, moving in all places but I was missing my family. During that time I had quite a number of sexual activities and I slept with different women. When I came back home I never took care of the family. I started drinking life a fish and became an irresponsible husband leaving the entire burden to my wife,” he said.

The veteran actor also revealed he affected his wife knowing well he could be HIV positive “I got tested while I was in Zambia after one of my girlfriends advised me about her pregnancy. She had gone for pregnancy tests and during that time she was tested for HIV and the results was shocking, she was positive. She forced me to get tested but I could not come to terms with the results. After I got tested I came back to Zimbabwe and I kept quiet about the issue. I never told my wife about the issue. I infected her but I regret. I later on received some counseling and it well well,” he explained

During my peak of popularity I had sex with approximately 80 women, within Harare and Zambia. In 2002 it was so amazing to be on TV. I abused the fame. To make matters worse I lacked counseling and I failed to handle it properly, leaving me in this mud. I am now a born again Christian with UFIC under the guidance of Prophet Emmanuel Makandiwa.” He continued.

Lungu behind DPP’s arrest … the President sent Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF) to ask for Nchito’s resig

PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu sent Lusaka lawyer Kelvin Bwalya Fube (KBF) to tell Director of Public Prosecutions Mutembo Nchito to resign from his position and avoid an acrimonious removal process.

And Lusaka High Court judge Mwila Chitabo yesterday ruled that his order which quashed Mutembo’s warrant of arrest and nullified all the proceedings before Chongwe magistrate Moses Phiri also renders the purported transfer of the file from Chongwe to Lusaka chief resident magistrate Joshua Banda null and void.

In a notice of application for leave to apply for judicial review filed in the principal registry, Mutembo stated that Bwalya, a close associate of President Lungu, informed his lawyer, Nchima Nchito, that if he did not resign, he would be met by undesirable consequences.

“On dates unknown but between 2nd and 4th February, 2015, a Mr Kelvin Bwalya Fube who is a close associate of the President of the Republic of Zambia informed Mr Nchima Nchito S.C who is the applicant’s counsel  that if the applicant did not resign, he would be met by undesirable consequences,” read the notice in part.

Narrating the details of his meeting with KBF, Nchito recalled that the Lusaka lawyer asked him to deliver the message because President Lungu did not want to talk to Mutembo directly.

He said when he was approached, he asked KBF why the President chose to send him instead of calling Mutembo directly.

“I asked him why His Excellency the President sent someone to deliver a message on his behalf instead of calling the DPP, but he said the President did not want to talk to him directly,” Nchito recalled.

said when pressed to explain the reasons why President Lungu wanted the DPP to step aside, KBF said he did not know but suspected that it was something to do with the promises that the Head of State made to former president Rupiah Banda.

Nchito said when he went to deliver the message to his client, Mutembo refused to comply with the President’s request from KBF because he was not aware of any grounds that could necessitate his resignation.

However, PF secretary general Davis Chama said President Lungu would not intervene in the matter of the arrest of the DPP until he cleared his name through the court process.

Reacting to the calls from the Law Association of Zambia for President Lungu to intervene, in the threat to due process and constitutionalism in the handling of cases of alleged impropriety and misconduct of constitutional office-holders, Chama said the Head of State would allow Mutembo to face the law.

“The allegation (against Mutembo) that has been brought is not from an individual, it’s from interested people and these have been there for a long time. Even before Honourable Lungu or His Excellency was in government, even when President Sata was there,” he told journalists at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport.

“It is unfortunate that some people are pushing President Edgar Lungu to interfere in a case where police arrested [the] Director of Public Prosecutions. The same people….Wynter Kabimba, you remember when he was justice minister, he said the government must not interfere in the rule of law [but] now they want the President to interfere in the rule of law; then what type of country are you going to have where the President will be interfering in the rule of law?”

Chama said the law must be allowed to take its course for or against any citizen.

“When he (President Lungu) says ‘let the law take its course’, it’s like we want to have people who must be above the law; No! No! We are all equal before the law. When they accused the former president Rupiah Banda, we said, ‘Let him clear his name’. What’s wrong for those who have been accused [now] to clear their name?”  wondered Chama.

Meanwhile, judge Chitabo has declared all legal proceedings in the Chongwe Magistrates’ Court against Mutembo, including the transfer of the case record to the Chief Resident Magistrate in Lusaka for reallocation, null and void.

“Upon reading the affidavit of Nchima Nchito, SC sworn on February 16th, 2015; upon hearing counsel for the applicant. IT IS HEREBY ORDERED that the purported transfer of the matter involving the applicant to the chief resident magistrate by the respondent is null and void ab initio and thereby of no legal  effect the matter and record having already been called to the High Court for review pursuant to the provisions of section 337 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Chapter 388 of the Laws of Zambia; IT IS FURTHER DIRECTED for the avoidance of doubt  that the ruling of February 12th, 2015 which declared the purported proceedings in Chongwe null and void ab initio rendered the applicant’s arrest and all procedures connected thereto also null and void ab initio,” read judge Chitabo’s order in part.

He also summoned Newton Ng’uni’s lawyers Keith Mweemba, Makebi Zulu and Gilbert Phiri over accusations from their client that the judge was working with Mutembo to defeat his attempt to seek justice.

The judge wondered if the three legal counsels had advised Ng’uni to hold a press briefing to denounce him and magistrate Joshua Banda.

Responding to judge Chitabo yesterday, the summoned lawyers apologised on behalf of Ng’uni saying they were not consulted on the matter and did not know that he planned to use the press briefing to attack the judge and magistrate.

Meanwhile, former president Banda’s associate and sympathiser , Brebner Changala yesterday wrote to President Lungu, asking him to appoint a tribunal to probe Mutembo for alleged abuse of authority of office.

disclosed that Changala’s petition was delivered to President Lungu yesterday, highlighting the same charges that Ng’uni initially claimed.

And Ng’uni yesterday filed another complaint against Mutembo before Lusaka magistrate Lameck Mwale, with the same charges that he had taken to a Chongwe magistrate on Wednesday last week.

GhanaWhen the Black Stars of Ghana placed second at the just concluded AFCON 2015 competition, their president promised them a Jeep Cherokee each among other gifts. The SUVs (pictured right) worth about $76,000 are now ready for pick up. The footballer’s families have been asked to come pick the SUVs on behalf of the footballers who have since returned to their various bases in Europe.

Tao, 40, put images of the piglet online where they quickly went viral before being bought by a Chinese news agency.

He said he was inundated with calls almost immediately from wealthy people offering large sums of money for the piglet thinking it had survived.

‘It is a shame it died, I could have got more money for it then for the rest of the family put together based on what people were offering me on the phone,’ he said.

The piglet’s 18 siblings were all reportedly born without any defects.

Taod says he now hopes to put the piglet’s corpse on display for visitors.

Boko Haram Vows To Disrupt Nigeria’s Elections

KANO

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau vowed to disrupt Nigeria’s general election in a new video released Tuesday, after two suicide attacks in the northeast blamed on the Islamists killed 38 people.

“This election will not be held even if we are dead. Even if we are not alive Allah will never allow you to do it,” Shekau said in the Hausa language, presumably referring to the polls scheduled for March 28.

The video appeared to be the first message released by the group on Twitter, a sign of its changing media tactics after previous messages were distributed to journalists on DVD.

Shekau was shown in unusual clarity in front of a solid blue background, dressed in black and with an automatic weapon resting to his right.

He also claimed a weekend attack in the northeast Nigerian city of Gombe, which the military says was repelled.

The Islamist leader, declared a global terrorist by the United States and sanctioned by the United Nations, disputed the military’s account of the Gombe clashes, claiming that his fighters overran troops and freed insurgents from prison.

Nigeria’s general election had been scheduled for February 14 but was postponed by six weeks, with the security services saying they needed more time to contain the violence in the northeast, Boko Haram’s stronghold.

Despite Shekau’s threat, experts doubt that the Islamist rebels have the capacity to disrupt voting nationwide, although election officials have conceded that voting could prove impossible in parts of the northeast.

A woman from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, apparently died of excessive bleeding after she allegedly had sex with a ghost she reportedly met at a city nightspot.

Sithabile Mpofu from Pumula East high density suburb, allegedly died on Monday last week from adverse allergic reaction of the “spook’s sexual acts”.

Before she died, she reportedly told her sister that she was shocked to find herself with no clothes on, lying on top of a grave at Luveve Cemetery where the alleged ghost had taken her for an all night encounter.

It is claimed that after agreeing to sleep together for the whole night, the ghost lured the unsuspecting Sithandazile saying they should go to “his house” in Luveve.

While in a commuter omnibus, it is reported that Sithandazile discovered that there was something strange about her companion’s eyes which were white and blinking in an unusual way.

Along the way the man apparently disappeared for a short while before he emerged, instructing the driver to drop them.

It is alleged that after dropping off, the next thing the deceased said she remembered is finding herself on top of a grave with no clothes on.

She got dressed and went home to alert her sister.

While narrating her story it is reported she started crying and bleeding.

Her seemingly panicked sister reportedly took her to their rural home in Esiphezini area near Esigodini where her condition deteriorated before she was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals where she died two days later.

A close relative confirmed the incident saying Sithandazile died after she complained of having slept with a ‘man’ who she suspected was a ghost.

Sex Guarantees Disease-Free Life In Offspring

The more we have sex, the more we avoid bad genetic mutations leading to less chances of developing diseases in offspring over time, finds an interesting study.

Researchers from the University of Montreal and the Sainte-Justine University Hospital Research Centre in Canada have revealed how humanity’s predispositions to disease gradually decrease the more we mix our genetic material together through sexual reproduction.

“This discovery gives us a better understanding of how we, as humans, become more or less at risk of developing or contracting diseases,” said study leader Philip Awadalla from the University of Montreal.

“It also tells scientists more precisely where to look in the human genome to find disease-enabling mutations which should speed up the discovery and identification of mutations associated with specific diseases,” he added.

More specifically, the team discovered that the segments of the human genome that do not recombine carry a significantly greater proportion of the more disease-enabling genetic mutations.

Until chromosome recombination eventually occurs, these segments accumulate more and more bad mutations.

In other words, as far as susceptibility to disease is concerned, our genetic material actually worsens before it gets better.

“Thankfully, disease-enabling mutations are eventually shuffled off our genetic code through sexual reproduction. But since these mutations rest on less dynamic segments of our genome, the process can potentially take many hundreds of generations,” Awadalla explained.

This discovery was made possible by the availability in recent years of repositories of biological samples and genetic data from different populations around the globe.

Awadalla and his team studied the sequenced genomes of hundreds of individuals from Canada’s CARTaGENE genetic data repository and the multinational 1,000 Genomes Project.

They found that the proportion of mutations associated with disease was significantly higher in low-recombining segments known as “coldspots” relative to highly-recombining regions.

The bad mutations in these “coldspots” were generally more damaging than the mutations in the highly recombining segments.

“Researchers and health authorities will be able to apply this new information to develop more effective treatments and prevention programmes,” Awadalla added.

And the Head of State has warned PF members not to undermine his authority and incite him to remove certain people from office because of their political affiliations.

President Lungu says his duty is to protect Zambians without favor or fear despite the political affiliations of Zambians.

President Lungu says he will not interfere in cases that are before the courts of law saying the law should take its course.

He says if a petition is brought before his attention and the case is before court, he cannot do anything because his hands are tied.

And President Lungu has warned PF members not to undermine his powers by influencing him to deal with certain individuals saying he is in office to serve the interests of Zambians and not individuals.

He says he does not care whether he will be adopted in 2016 or not, stating that he has put the people of Zambia first in the execution of his duties.

President Lungu says PF members who are not happy with certain individuals in office should stop bickering and meet him head on saying he is protecting the interests of Zambia.

President Lungu said this at State House this morning when he sworn-in Malcolm Mulenga as Deputy Inspector General of Police, Anderson Namachila as Luapula Province Police Commissioner, Auxensio Daka as Muchinga Province Police Commissioner and Stanslous Chewe as Northern Province Police Commissioner.

Others are Ambassodor Shiela Siwela as Senior Private Secretary in the office of the Vice President and Doreen Mwaba as Chief Policy Analyst at State House.
