TB Joshua Named ‘Man Of The Decade’ In Nigeria

$

0

T.B. Joshua, the Nigerian cleric who is especially popular across Southern Africa, has been honoured as the ‘man of the decade’ for a prominent ethnic group in Nigeria.

Joshua received the commendation from IrohinOdua, a pan-Yoruba news outlet which caters for the over 35 million Yoruba people.

Additionally, outspoken Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka was named ‘Yoruba man of the year’ and prominent Nigerian statesman and social democrat Chief Obafemi Awolowo was posthumously awarded ‘Yoruba man of the century’.

According to the statement, the three personalities were selected after a careful consideration of the role each had played in the annals of modern Yoruba history.

Eulogising T.B. Joshua’s contribution to tourism in Nigeria, the Editorial Board Chairman for IrohinOdua, Prince Adeleke said, “The ancestral origin of The Synagogue has transformed from a dingy wasteland into a local Disneyland drawing, in one year, millions of visitors to Nigeria from Africa, Europe, the Middle East and America.”

Tragic evidence of Joshua’s potential to attract foreigners to Nigeria came on September 12th 2014 when a guesthouse in his premises collapsed, resulting in the deaths of 115 people. Government sources state that six out of every ten visitors to Nigeria are bound for Joshua’s church, a figure that has shown no signs of waning despite the tragic incident last year.

Adeleke continued, “We see in his handiwork, a quiet revolution to transform the world in ways unimaginable. Since we blew the whistle for nomination, we have received incalculable, baffling testimonials from royals and ordinary street folks leading us to a hidden light in a dark, malicious world where the poor remain the dreg and the end butt of repression, neglect and perpetual want.”

The popularity of Christian television station Emmanuel TV is increasingly evident in predominantly Christian nations such as Zambia, Malawi, Tanzania, Botswana, Namibia, Zimbabwe and South Africa where T.B. Joshua is a household name.

Foods You Must Eat Every Day

$

While we know that there are a lot of foods that are super healthy and good to eat, we may not consume them regularly.

However there are certain foods, which are important to consume on a regular basis, as these comprise of essential vitamins and minerals that all of us will benefit from. They also have good levels of fats, proteins, and carbs, which are all equally important for a balanced diet. So what are these foods that will benefit us greatly if consumed every day?

1. Eggs/ chicken/ meat – any one of these are very important to include daily in your diet. Whole eggs give you a good amount of healthy protein and fats if you want to stay strong and eat filling and healthy meals. If you are an active individual it is even more important to eat eggs as a form of energy as well as to build your muscles that get broken down during your workouts.

2. Salads / vegetables – make one meal of your day just a big bowl of salad or a big bowl of fresh vegetables cooked minimalistic and see how it makes you feel. If you can add some chicken into the mix, it will not only fill you up more but make it more delicious than it already is. Add nuts for more flavour and crunch.

3. Fish or fish oil – Getting your dose of Omega 3 is very important to make you feel good, and to reduce the aches in your joints after strenuous workouts. Fish oil is also a very good fat to consume in order to ensure that you get your dosage of healthy fats.

4. Olive oil/ coconut oil – add these generously to your salads (incase of olive oil) or cooking (in case of coconut oil). Both these flavourful oils are important so that you don’t end up consuming cooking oils that are highly processed and in turn harmful for your weight management goals.

5. Fruits – Fruits are great to add fiber to your diet, they have antioxidant properties, are good to carry as a quick snack in between meals, have healthy natural carbs and sugar, and are generally little bites of nutrition. One fruit a day should be part of any remotely healthy persons diet and we hope these are part of yours!

Good idea. A lot of people cannot digest raw veggies, so they can steam them.

Times of India would be well advised not to promote meat eating. Humans are not made to eat meat. Those who do not agree may consider the fact that human cannot survive a diet of meat alone without any vegetables. Further it is well established that non-vegetarianism is contributing very significantly to global warming and environmental damages.

ALL HUMANS NEED A BALANCED VEG/NON-VEG DIET TO BE HEALTHY.

Totally disagree. Before humans invented cold storage, people in the extreme north used to live without vegetables for the whole of winter, surviving only on meat.

Thanks for the response but it covered only one of the points. May I advise you to recheck the facts about the people living around north pole. Secondly why don’t some one prove by actually surviving on meats alone with out consuming any vegetable products.

I don’t see why I should prove anything to you. You have no right to interfere or influence someone’s personal dietary habits and preferences. If you don’t like to eat meat, feel free not to. I always wonder why vegetarians jump whenever this topic is raised. Nahi khana hain to mat khaon yaar.

True., One should not interfere or influence someone’s personal dietary habits. The same is applicable to the media which is trying to promote only non veg diet . I don’t understand as to why non vegetarians jump and start their rhetoric that it is their personal choice kind of thing. Agar veg nahi khana hai to mat khaon yaar. But, media mey is tharah ki bateen propogate karna media koh suit nahi karta. Media agar aisi harkat karegi, toh, uski bajaani padegi yaar…..

The extremists enjoy killing people, why should any one object to them!? Think honestly and without prejudices (if indeed you can do so). As I said earlier, people will always like to justify what they like and not what is right.

One should consume that which is commonly available in his geography. A location which has fish in abundance and a thriving fishing community, will certainly eat more of fish in its community. Similarly, a location where there is no vegetation, it can consume whatever is available for its sustenance (Example- Arabian Region). But, India is a landscape with good amount of diverse vegetation and since, it is in abundance, one should look forward to consuming more of vegetarian diet. This is not because, it is only veg food will be good kind of thing. Our system also, cannot accommodate a non veg diet. The longitivity of a non veg consuming person is generally low compared to a vegetarian person. India is a civilized culture and it believes in causing minimum damage to mother nature. Because, according to Dharma tradition, nothing exists with out the divine. Everything is divine hence, one should be very careful while making his choices and see to it that he does not cause major damage to mother nature.

As per our Vedas “jeeva jeevasya bhojanam”!!! Tomorrow you might say lions should eat grass only. Humans have canine teeth as well and agriculture came very late in history of evolutions!!!

Vedas don’t speak what to do and what not to do. Lions are built to eat meat. It would be unfair expecting lions to have grass or carrot juice, for a simple reason that they are designed to have meat. Humans have canine teeth and humans also have the idea of tearing flesh with knife. Just because, they have both does not mean, they have to do that. Instead of giving filthy ideas, consider yourself as being part of nature and don’t try dominating it. Vedas speak about the reactions of what you do. You have to make your choices. Making choices should be based on a principle called “minimum damage to mother nature”. Your choices should not be based on what you like and dislike. Nobody will have medicine because, he likes medicine. Similarly, nobody should should things which are based on his likes. Well, there are some things which are independent of what one likes and dislikes.

Humans would not have canines if they were not meat eaters. The fact that we have canines establishes the fact that humans have always been non-vegetarians.

We somehow will always find a way to justify or rationalise what we like. Humans cannot survive without eating vegetables but do survive pretty well without eating meat. Please think beyond your pleasures of meat-eating as to who has given us the right to kill another creature just for our pleasure? I know it won’t be easy to answer it honestly but do try if you can.

Imagine in a day we finding more than 100 hen dead sick and waiting funeral in our surroundings.Pure vegetarians just close their nose and move away. They express disgust faces to even look into them. So this would cause epidemic diseases much faster than any could imagine. This not only appears to hen, but to all livestock. The creator has not given emotions to animals the same way as human. And he created human to be dominant over other beings obviously. And if vegetarians say they don’t harm environment, the harm is more, because plants are much more needed in ecosystem than animals. And plants do have a life so think twice before killing them too. And then please survive on water and air. And many vegetarians now converted egg also to vegetarian section. For their benefit :-) Its good na to stop even formation of hen. I find it funny when people speak without any knowledge against people who eat meat/fish.

It is not about veg or non veg. You have made some loose assumptions like animals have less emotions than humans, Humans are created to be dominant over other beings etc etc etc. All this is non sensical because, humans are also made up of that which makes these animals or plants. By this, we can factually conclude, that materially, we are no different to that of animals and plants. As far as emotions are considered, there is no way, one can explain the emotions of animals, because, all the time, humans are speaking to humans. The idea of many vegetarians for not having non veg diet may be due to bad smell and feeling yuk about it. But, the basic idea of not having a vegetarian diet is to cause minimum damage to mother nature. It is true that even plants have life. But, causing minimum damage is the underlining principle here. There are many substitutes in nature that can fulfill whatever one gets out of meat or fish or eggs etc. There is no need to derive the nutrients only from these. One may like to consume such things, but, they have to accept it gracefully rather than giving stupid arguments….

LOOK NOTHING IN NATURE IS PURELY VEGETARIAN. JUST AS BIG FISH LIVE ON SMALL FISH AND WE CONSUME BIG FISH TOO, SO DO PLANTS LIVE ON PLANTS AND WE CONSUME THEM TOO. THINK. CHECK IT OUT. PLANTS ALSO LIVE ON BACTERIA WHICH HAS LIFE.

According to Dharma tradition, there is nothing which isn’t alive. Every bit of manifestation including you and me are sacred. And the underlining principle is since everything is sacred, one has to make his choice based on “causing minimum damage to mother nature”. Which means, one should make his choices with out harming mother nature. This philosophy is Dharmic and is far more superior compared to any other philosophies in the world. It is much more civilized which considers everything to be sacred unlike the western and Arabic religions which is very much human specific. We believe in being with nature rather than dominating it unlike western and Arabian religions. The point is not about what is veg and what is non veg. It is about eating that which suits your environment and geographic situations. It is absolutely fine for the Arabs to consume meat because, they have no vegetation. Similarly, It is absolutely fine to consume vegetarian diet where there is plenty of vegetation. Of course there are animals who would have animals and plants who would consume plants, why should we involve in making unfair choices by deciding about what to eat based on our likes and dislikes. If you like consuming non veg food that is your choice but, it is unfair to apply for all you see. Media can not privilege itself to decide what every one should eat and what everyone should not eat kind of stuff. It is none of their business to promote such philosophy. Equality is wishful thinking. Nobody is equal at any form of existence. How can they apply one thing flat on everybody while knowing that nature is diverse and it should be respected. I am not saying that one should not eat veg or non veg by loading any kind of philosophy here. Vegetarianism is one of the complete philosophies and it alone does not represent Dharma tradition. People consumed meat in ancient days as well. But, they never applied or asked every one to adopt it just because they are consuming. This does not make sense and can not be tolerated. Media should seriously looking in to quality journalism instead of drilling people’s mind with this nonsensical ideas. I think, they have deviated from their core objective and have sort of gone in to something they are not expected to do. I understand, what today’s media is designed to do and can very well understand where they come from…

Former Finance Minister Ng’andu Magande has attributed the continued depreciation of the kwacha to loss of investor confidence in Zambia’s economy.

Mr. Magande says one of the things investors look out for are the policy statements made by government officials.

He notes that the Kwacha has been depreciating at a fast pace for the last six months than never before in the history of the country.

Mr. Magande states that the depreciation of the Kwacha also calls for the need to look at the governance of the country.

He has urged the PF government to ensure that they formulate policies that will help strengthen the Kwacha against the major currencies.

A Mpulungu mother has caused severe burns to her daughter after she dipped her hands in a pot of boiling water as punishment for eating a piece of fish.

Simumbele village headman, Luckson Mpepo confirmed this to Kasama’s Radio Mano, saying the incident happened yesterday and named the victim as Chibwe Nanyangwe.

Mr. Mpepo stated primary investigations showed that the victim opened the lid of the cooking pot to merely taste whether there was enough salt in the fish or not.

The traditional leader has since described the situation as unfortunate.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother only identified as Bana-junior-Nachilima was by press time said to have left for a church gathering leaving the young girl in a desperate situation.

Drama As SA Couple Stuck During Sex

commotionTHE CHEATER had been warned: “Leave my wife alone! I have put special muthi in her punani (vag!na).”

But the cheaters again ignored the warning and ended up getting stuck together. They found themselves screaming for help, begging to be separated.

The rumour quickly spread that a cheating man had died after he got stuck in his lover’s punani.

And a crowd of about 2,000 people gathered at Dena Court in Yeoville, Joburg. The police had to be called.

People were allegedly pepper sprayed and the amaBerethe chased people away with sjamboks. Many people claimed the police fired rubber bullets.

Priscilla Ndlovu (34) who claims to be a resident at the same flats said they heard screams from the room where the woman stays on Thursday night.

“At first we thought it was just the screams of sexual pleasure, but it turned to be screams for help,” said Priscilla.

She said they called the security who forced the door open and saw the naked man on top of the naked woman pleading for help to be separated, but nobody could force them apart.”

She said everyone was shocked and afraid of what they saw.

“We always hear of such things happening but we have never seen it,” she said.

A family member of the husband of the cheating wife said the husband had been complaining about his cheating wife.

“He complained she was going out with his friend. I think he locked his wife to catch the man she’s cheating with,” said the woman.

She said in Zimbabwe, where they come from, it is a common way of catching cheating men and women.

“No one will separate them until the husband comes back from Zimbabwe to unlock them,” she said.

A Zimbabwean source said locking a woman with muthi was a common way of catching and punishing cheating lovers in their country.

By Friday morning, when the crowd saw the ambulance at the flats they chanted: “We want to see them! Show us the cheaters!”

Cops were kept busy keeping the crowd at bay. Three streets were blocked off, causing major traffic jams and motorists had to use alternative routes.

The ambulance finally raced off at high speed. It is not known if the couple were inside. Neither the police nor the paramedics could confirm if the two were taken to hospital or not.

Sangoma Mathabo Mofokeng said husbands put muthi in their wives’ punani to lock their women.

“There is muthi that is used by some men to catch cheating couples,” she said.

The dance’s name means “little mattress”.

“This has become a serious danger to our culture as it threatens the original dances which are our identity,” Tanzania’s Director of Culture Development, Prof Herman Mwansoko, was quoted as saying.

What do you think of the dance? Should the government have blacklisted it? Have a look below and tell us what you think!

Police Clash With UPND Funeral Procession

$

UPND funeralPolice and UPND cadres clashed today during the funeral procession of UPND member Grayzer Matapa who was killed at the weekend by suspected PF cadres in Lusaka’s Mtendere Township.

This was after Police tried to advise the UPND cadres who were carrying the casket on their shoulders from Ambassador St Annes to put it on a vehicle, a suggestion the cadres rejected sparking the confrontation.

The casket of the late Matapa was damaged in the ensuing fracas after it was dropped after Police fired teargas. A new coffin had to be bought in which to bury the slain UPND member.

The late Matapa has since been put to rest at Leopards Hill Memorial Park. UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema was among the mourners.

And the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) has described the clashes involving Police and UPND cadres carrying the coffin of the late Matapa as a distressing.

YALI Governance Advisor Isaac Mwanza says the police should have read the mood the UPND were in considering that they were mourning.

Mr Mwanza says it does not matter whether the cadres carried the coffin on their shoulders or in a vehicle.

Mr. Mwanza states that it is unfortunate that the Police went ahead and did the unthinkable disrespecting the dead.

He says the move by the Police was provocative and that they should desist from engaging in such taboos in the future.

Mr. Mwanza has since appealed to the Police command to ensure that they do not allow police officers to engage in provocative situations in a bid to promote peace and order in the country.

Former Mines Minister Maxwell Mwale has been sentenced to twelve months imprisonment with hard labour for abuse of authority of office.MAXWELL-MWALE

Mr Mwale was on Wednesday found guilty of abuse of authority of office by facilitating the issuance of mining licences to a Chinese firm, Zhongui International Mining Industry Group Limited.

Passing sentence in the matter this morning, Magistrate Lameck Mwale noted that the number of cases involving abuse of authority of office is on the increasing and that he would be failing in his duties if he did not impose a custodial sentence on the offender.

Magistrate Mwale said the sentence will run from the day the former Minister was convicted on 25th February 2015.

Mr Mwale was on Wednesday acquitted of the other count of being in possession of 5,000 bicycles worth over K1.5 million suspected to be proceeds of crime.

Magistrate Mwale has since directed that the bicycles be restituted to the convict.

HH Organised People To Protest In Lusaka -Lungu

President Edgar Lungu has warned UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema not to dare him by inciting his cadres to protest.

And President Lungu has called for transparency which he says can redeem the nation.
Commissioning a Rural Electrification Authority project at Luangeni village in Paramount chief Mpezeni’s area in Chipata on Friday, President Lungu referred to protests in Lusaka on Friday sparked by the death of a UPND cadre, Grayzer Matapa, who was buried yesterday.

“Let Hakainde Hichilema not dare me; he has incited cadres in Lusaka to demonstrate over the death of a man in Mutendere. I have time and again stated that I will not support violence or protect anyone from criminal activities. But HH organised people to protest in Lusaka and they were fighting today (Friday) in Lusaka,” he said.

President Lungu said without breaking the law or favouring anyone, he would protect every citizen, including UPND members.

He said being aggrieved did not mean that one should break the law with impunity.

President Lungu said Inspector General of Police Stella Libongani informed him that police had already arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of Matapa who was stabbed to death by suspected PF cadres in Mutendere last Sunday.

He said time for politics was over and that it was his wish that the focus of all political parties would be to develop the country.

And President Lungu urged all citizens to preach the “One Zambia, One nation” motto.
He urged the media not to promote violence in its reporting.

President Lungu said because of a certain type of reporting, people had started fighting, causing people to speculate that he was shielding PF members.

“A criminal is a criminal, be it a Chewa, a Tonga, a Christian or Muslim, he is a criminal. A Nsenga or a Chewa are all Zambians, and certain specified type of reporting that a Chewa has been killed by a Ngoni brings violence and divisions,” he said.

President Lungu said citizens should allow police to conclude their investigations.

The head of state, however, made comments on Matapa’s death a few days after his killing while police were still investigating the matter, saying criminals were behind the murder and not PF cadres.

UPND cadres protested against police and President Lungu over what they believed was inaction in bringing those involved in Matapa’s death to book.

And on Friday, police fired teargas to disperse the cadres who protested during a funeral procession for Matapa. In the ensuing confusion, pall-bearers dropped the casket, damaging it.

And speaking when he overruled his press aide Amos Chanda who asked the media not to cover the entire meeting with the business community at Protea Hotel in Chipata on Friday evening, President Lungu said there was no need to abandon the media because they were not plotting against anyone.

“So media, you are free to be here until we get tired and run out of this place because we should be transparent. Transparency is what is going to redeem us. I was saying something in Luangeni where we were and I talked about the media. One media house has got this propensity to misquote Mr Lungu, President of the Republic of Zambia. All the time, the headline ‘Lungu this, Lungu that’. But I am grateful that lately, you read the headline and the story is totally at variance and I say that’s editorial indiscretion or discretion. I will allow the media to remain here until we conclude because we have go nothing to hide,” he said.

President Lungu wondered why Eastern Province Chamber of Commerce and Industry chairperson, Thomas Mtonga, asked him about the high prices of mealie-meal.

“I thought you should be telling me as Chamber of Commerce and Industry to say, ‘look Mr President, I think we have evaluated all the valuables and we think the reason why mealie-meal is expensive in this region is because of 1, 2’…not to ask me ‘how do we reduce the price of mealie-meal’ when you are the people who are involved in the production of mealie-meal. I thought that you would be able to tell me that ‘we evaluated everything and we think that we should be allowed to invest in milling plants in this region’,” he said.

President Lungu said the government was not the manager of trade.

“All we need to do, as government, is to make a conducive environment to do business. How do we do that? We do that by you engaging us, telling us that ‘the regime on tax is oppressive; we can’t move’ or ‘the roads are very bad; we cannot find a profit because our vehicles are breaking down every day’,” he said.

President Lungu said the government was planning to partner with the private sector to have milling plants established in some areas of the country to reduce the cost of mealie-meal.

And Mtonga said the chamber wanted to see local processing of produce from the region.

“We also hope that there will be plans to make sure that the infrastructure development is also accompanied with policies, which will enable the businessman to do business successfully. We hope you will be able to see to it that the infrastructure, which you put up, can translate into meaningful development in Eastern Province,” said Mtonga.

Later after President Lungu and justice minister Dr Ngosa Simbyakula made their presentations, the business community did not ask questions until Mtonga said some people were not comfortable with the presence of the media.

At this point, President Lungu asked Mtonga whether it was his demand that the media should be told to leave.

“Is it your demand that the media be thrown out? It’s not my demand but I can’t say it. Me, I am very confortable because I have nothing to hide. But if you are uncomfortable, dear colleagues from the media, you hear that cry. In a very subtle way, they are asking you to go and have your dinner. Goodnight,” said President Lungu.

One of the businessmen who attended the meeting said issues concerning the Food Reserve Agency and citizenship acquisition were raised.

“Some businessmen expressed concern that 10 years is a long period for one to qualify to get Zambian citizenship while in other countries, it’s five years, but home affairs minister Davies Mwila promised to look into the matter,” he said.

Earlier, President Lungu urged PF members to embrace each other and called for unity among party members countrywide.

11Shouldn’t some of these pastors be banned? There’s one in South Africa who makes his congregation eat grass and drink fuel.
Another one nearly made a pregnant woman miscarry by hitting her belly several times. Now this one! He washed the sins of his congregation with soap detergent, bleach and water. And you see the people obediently going to him for bleach to be poured on them

President Lungu’s Trips Beneficial –Sampa

A Civil society organisation (CSO) says those criticisingPresident Lungu’s foreign trips must conduct a research so as to establish the benefits that accrue to the country.
Good Governance and Child Activist Kelvin Sampa said presidential foreign trips have benefits such as championing economic diplomacy and attracting foreign direct investment to the nation.
“People should understand that presidential foreign trips are meant to strengthen ties with foreign countries who are stakeholders to the growth of the national economy and the trips also help strengthen diplomatic ties.
“The presidential trips are also meant to woe investors in our country in order to create the much needed employment in order to strengthen the economy,” Mr Sampa said.
He said in an interview yesterday that people condemning presidential trips do not understand the office of the president and are not aware of new trends of economic diplomacy which is championed by the Head of State.
Mr Sampa said Mr Lungu took over from late president Sata and a programme was already in place for the government to strengthen ties with foreign countries.
Meanwhile, Mr Sampa has called on the Zambia Police and investigative wings to investigate claims by UPND leader Hakainde Hichilema that he receives intelligence reports before they reach President Lungu.
He said issues that border on national security which are meant for the President are not supposed to be for public consumption because they involve State security.
“Our organizstion is waiting for the response from the Inspector General of police to respond to Mr Hichilema’s claims. We are also waiting for the Office of the President to conduct an investigation and flush out persons releasing State security information because they are a danger to the nation,” he said.
Mr Sampa said Zambia is known as a haven of democracy and peace and will not allow statements from desperate individuals to disturb the peace of the nation.
He said even when democracy allows for freedom of expression, statements that border on State security should not be entertained just because they are coming from people who feel more significant than other citizens

‘Do Not Parade Naked’

UPND-women-naked-march-624x416The Zambia National Women’s’ Lobby (ZNWL) has advised women to desist from being used by political parties to parade naked in the streets as a means of airing grievances.
ZNWL board chairperson Beauty Katebe wondered why political party leaders supporting such behaviour did not join the women who paraded naked in the streets if they are convinced such activities yield results.
“It is unfair and unfortunate to take advantage of the vulnerability of women to persuade them into undressing in public as a means of airing their grievances while the initiators of such actions remain fully clothed,” Ms Katebe said.
Ms Katebe was reacting to a protest on Thursday by United Party for National Development (UPND) women over the killing of their party member Grayzer Matapa.
“No matter how aggrieved, there are better ways of airing grievances in today’s age than stripping. There is no room for such sexist manoeuvres 50 years after Zambia’s independence. We urge UPND to continue with the work of offering checks and balances to Government but do so in an acceptable manner,” she said.

Ruling In Nchito’s Own Nolle Case Due Tomorrow

Lusaka Magistrate Lameck Mwale is tomorrow the 2nd of March expected to make a ruling in a matter Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Mutembo Nchito entered a nolle prosequi in his own case.
Magistrate Mwale is expected to rule as to whether Mr. Nchito who is alleged to have committed among other offenses Abuse of Authority of Office, Contempt of court, Procuring execution of documents by false pretences and Conspiracy to defeat justice, can enter a nolle prosequi in his own case or not.

When this matter came up for mention and taking of plea on Friday the 20th of February 2015, in his argument for entering the nolle prosequi, Mr. Nchito told the court that he has been forced to use the powers vested in him under the constitution to stop the criminal proceedings against him because he does not think the due process of the law has been followed.

Mr. Nchito contended that he cannot be prosecuted on charges that have not been investigated and on which a signed charge sheet has not been drawn out.

But in response to Mr. Nchito’s decision, Magistrate Mwale who had earlier ruled that the DPP takes plea despite him retaining his constitutional powers allowed the prosecution team representing former Finance Deputy Minister, Newton Ng’uni who is the complainant in this matter to be heard.

Magistrate Mwale ruled that this is because the matter at hand is unprecedented and therefore the prosecution team had to be heard.

In their submissions, the prosecution team which compromised lawyers from Makebi Zulu Advocates, PNP Advocates and Keith Mweemba Advocates contended that by entering a nolle prosequi in a matter he is facing alleged criminal charges, Mr. Nchito is in fact abusing his Authority as DPP.

The prosecution team argued that it is also against law of natural justice for Mr. Nchito to enter a nolle prosequi with respect to himself, adding that there is no provision in the country’s constitution that protects the DPP from prosecution.

Magistrate Mwale then adjourned the matter to tomorrow the 2nd March to enable him study what was been submitted before making ruling.

ZESCO TO Lose $480 Million Annually

ZESCO Limited is expected to lose about US$480 million annually through buying electricity from independent power producers (IPPs).
This is much higher than the price at which the power utility sells electricity to consumers.
Company director of finance Rodgers Chisambi said Zesco, being the off-taker of power from the IPPs, buys electricity at an average rate of US$11 and later sells it at US$0.0 6 , resulting in a tariff differential deficit that will impact negatively on the company’s cash flow.
“At the current selling average tariff of 6.02 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh) compared to the IPP average cost of buying of US$11.03 per kWh, [there will be] a loss of US$479.5 million per year,” Mr Chisambi said.
He said this recently when senior officials from Zesco led by acting managing director Victor Mundende appeared before the parliamentary committee on economic affairs, energy and labour.
Zesco Limited is expected to buy 1,880 megawatts of power at an annual cost of US$884 million from Kariba North Bank Extension, Itezhi-tezhi Hydro Power Corporation, Kafue Gorge Lower, Ndola Energy, and Maamba Collieries Limited, among others.
Mr Chisambi also said IPPs demand for security payment of close to US$200 million to secure their monthly billing receivables from Zesco Limited.
“These amounts have to be maintained throughout the life of the agreement and this will result in a serious strain on Zesco’s cash flow. Zesco’s financial statements have for a long time been positive, but this development will result in the company making losses,” he said.
Earlier, Mr Mundende explained that IPPs are depending on Zesco to buy their electricity due to lack of cost-reflective tariffs in the country.
“Several projects are under construction [and] given the current market structure and uneconomic tariffs, these projects are looking to Zesco to underpin their development as the sole off-taker.
However, the tariffs arising from the projects are all significantly above Zesco’s current average selling price,” he said

Zim Maid Who Put The Baby In The Drawer Jailed 22 Years

HARARE – A Zimbabwean nanny was jailed for 22 years for the murder of a 10-month-old baby she stuffed into a drawer “for crying too much” before she settled down to watch TV.
Violet Moyo, 22, was sentenced on Thursday after being found guilty of murder over what the judge said was a “very cruel and brutal” death, the state-run Chronicle newspaper reported.
Moyo, from Zimbabwe’s second city of Bulawayo, was left in charge of the baby boy while the parents went to work and had fed him and put him to bed.
But the child woke up after five hours and started crying, the prosecution said.
Moyo tried in vain to calm the boy and in frustration she wrapped him in a blanket, stuffed him in a linen drawer and shut it while she went to watch a film on television.
She went to check on the child after three hours and found he was dead, the newspaper said on Friday.
High court judge Lawrence Kamocha described the baby’s death as “very cruel and brutal”.
“Despite the baby’s distressed cry, you chose to ignore him and went to the lounge to watch a television movie, which is quite clear you wanted to kill him,” Kamocha said.AFP
